My body of work consists of various genres and mediums, black ink drawings, auto-portraits in photography, still life and more. I have been and am still working constantly on these themes. But at this point my main interest and lately my more massive work has been on large canvases executed with acrylic and the use of stencils. I use a variety of stencils, in size and design, some of them are ornamental patterns, some are images of wild animals and other are images borrowed from heraldic emblems and signs. 

In part of my work I employ the stencil as representation of an images, but in most of my most recent work I refer to the stencil as if it were my “brush”. Instead of using manual brushwork I “paint” with the stencil, achieving a lacework effect and applying many layers of stencil work one on top of the other covering parts of the lower layers but revealing parts of each layer.

My two main sources of inspiration are certain periods from the history of Christian art and Gibraltar, my homeland, the place where I lived and was brought up as a girl.

Although my use of stencil is a statement, an expression of my choice not to work with my personal handwriting, and by doing so not allowing myself to fall into a kind of mannerism that happens when one works with the gesture of the brushwork, it has developed into a personal language and has allowed me to pursue my aesthetic and artistic phantasy.

The work with stencils is sisyphic and laborious but essential in achieving the intricate effect I am seeking.
